New Police Headquarters Floats 2 Site Possibilities

The City of Durham has received a consultants report outlining two possible locations for a new police headquarters, though any decision is still months away.

The leading choice would be located somewhere near the Golden Belt complex off East Main Street, near other government investments such as the new Durham County Social Services building and the Durham Housing Authority’s Hope VI projects. Although, the density of the area suggests it may increase the costs of the project.

Southside Durham Begins Anew

A project that just never seems to end - could mean a great deal for a lot of people. The final paperwork to get the equipment humming was signed by the city council today, ending more than six years of planning. Southside-East, better known as Rolling Hills, is a 21-acre tract on South Roxboro Street and Southside-West, or St. Theresa's, is an established neighborhood of about 100 acres, on the other side of South Roxboro Street.

Muirfield Village Begins Construction

Lennar Introduces Its Newest Community In Durham-NC, featuring spacious and practical townhouses priced from the $150's. The community offers four well-designed two-story home plans ranging from approximately 1,580 to 1,880 sqft, featuring two to three bedrooms. One plan offers a downstairs owner’s suite and two and a half bathrooms. Each home also includes a one-car garage and provides the homeowner with maintenance-free living.

Duke University Plans To Re-use Stormwater

A major water reclamation pond on Duke University's West Campus will save the city of Durham's drinking water supply approximately 100 million gallons of potable water a year. Construction on the $9 million project is scheduled to begin in 2013-spring, once state and federal agency permits are received, and will take about a year to complete. Duke will pump the reclaimed water to one of the chilled water plants for cooling and dehumidifying campus and medical buildings.

Duke Environment Hall Gets The Green Light

Duke University plans to begin construction on a new $35 million building in 2012-April, that will be the new home to the Nicholas School of the Environment. The 70,000-sqft building will include additional classroom, computer space and common areas, green roof, solar hot water and photovoltaic systems, greywater and rainwater recycling for toilets and irrigation, and natural lighting. Other sustainable features in the five-story, glass-and-concrete building include a chilled beam system for air conditioning and a thermal corridor that provides natural insulation for offices and laboratories.

Circle Ninth Street Holds Groundbreaking


Crescent Resources began construction on a 303-unit apartment community in Durham, NC. The $47 million project in the historic Ninth Street District within easy walking distance to Duke University and the Duke medical campus, where more than 32,000 people are employed.

Brightleaf at the Park Changes Hands

A master-planned community near the Research Triangle Park, Brightleaf at the Park, still has
900 single-family and townhouse lots to be built on. Brightleaf is near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Sherron Road in Durham. Original plans called for the development of 2,866 units over 14 phases. Last summer, SunTrust Banks Inc. took back ownership of its remaining developed lots and undeveloped land from Brightleaf’s developer, Rhein Interests of Cincinnati. Mountain Real Estate Capital and L Star Management have acquired the land and plan to continue marketing the property to local and national builders.

Diamond View III Anticipates Spring Thaw

Diamond-View-3Capitol Broadcasting Company announced plans to develop the core of its American Tobacco Campus overlooking the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The five-story building will have 130,000-sqft office space and 15,000-sqft of retail, while parking decks won't be needed as they are already in place. Located at GPS:35.99281,-78.90403 in the 300 block of Blackwell Street Durham, NC the new building is expecting to break ground 2012-April and be completed 2013-summer.
