Duke University Plans To Re-use Stormwater

A major water reclamation pond on Duke University's West Campus will save the city of Durham's drinking water supply approximately 100 million gallons of potable water a year. Construction on the $9 million project is scheduled to begin in 2013-spring, once state and federal agency permits are received, and will take about a year to complete. Duke will pump the reclaimed water to one of the chilled water plants for cooling and dehumidifying campus and medical buildings.

Brightleaf at the Park Changes Hands

A master-planned community near the Research Triangle Park, Brightleaf at the Park, still has
900 single-family and townhouse lots to be built on. Brightleaf is near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and Sherron Road in Durham. Original plans called for the development of 2,866 units over 14 phases. Last summer, SunTrust Banks Inc. took back ownership of its remaining developed lots and undeveloped land from Brightleaf’s developer, Rhein Interests of Cincinnati. Mountain Real Estate Capital and L Star Management have acquired the land and plan to continue marketing the property to local and national builders.
